Commander of the Ukrainian Navy Oleksiy Neizhpapa opened up about whether Ukraine has the capabilities to destroy the Kerch Bridge and what obstacles stand in the way of this goal

He said this in an interview with Radio Liberty.

Asked about the Defense Forces’ knowledge of the Crimean bridge’s defense system and the chances of striking it, Oleksiy Neizhpapa responded that the bridge is a complex target, but “there is no fortress that cannot be destroyed, and no borders that cannot be crossed.”

He noted that Russia understands the significance of this bridge for Ukraine, so it has strengthened its protection from land, air, and underwater.

Oleksiy Neizhpapa said the enemy has built a layered defense, which we must overcome “with other technical and tactical solutions.” He emphasized that for every Ukrainian solution, the enemy will have a countermeasure. The commander believes that maritime 'kamikaze' drones are now “almost history,” and they should carry more diverse weapons for greater effectiveness.

A key role in the maritime success, according to Neizhpapa, was played by the missile program, particularly the Neptune missile system. Significant contributions also came from innovative ideas not only of naval servicemen but also from experts in the Security Service of Ukraine and the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense regarding the creation of unmanned maritime systems.

“We are developing maritime combat technologies, and the enemy is, of course, developing countermeasures against all these forces and means,” he stressed.

  • On April 7, Oleksiy Neizhpapa confirmed that the Crimean bridge remains a target for Ukrainian forces.
  • On May 1, it became known that the occupying Russian army was ordered to be on full combat alert and respond to any threats near the Crimean bridge.
