New Council of Europe Secretary General is making the right moves for Ukraine, says correspondent Vysotska
Alain Berset's messages during the PACE plenary session are what Ukraine expects from the Council of Europe
Espreso correspondent Tetiana Vysotska spoke about this on Espreso TV.
She said, "At first, the Ukrainian side was a little wary of Alain Berset, because, as we know, Switzerland is a neutral country. The Swiss are in favor of peaceful negotiations and believe there is no need to transfer weapons to Ukraine, etc. But as Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset is clearly and appropriately acting as a person who supports Ukraine."
Alain Berset said that Ukraine is his priority for the mandate of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Vysotska noted.
“He clearly said that Russia must be held accountable for the crimes it committed in Ukraine. There was also a statement that Ukraine should be supported in order to preserve its sovereignty and independence, and that Europe should support the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine. That is, all the messages sent to the world during the plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe are correct, and this is what Ukraine expects from the Council of Europe. Therefore, let's hope that it will continue to be so, and the Council of Europe will remain pro-Ukrainian and support Ukraine,” the correspondent added.
- Recently, the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset, spoke about a number of specific challenges and priorities, in particular, he emphasized support for Ukraine in the war against Russia.
