Claim that Ukraine fights with American weapons is myth — Ukrainian serviceman
Ukrainian Armed Forces soldier Ihor Lutsenko pointed out that American weapons arrive in Ukraine in small quantities
He shared this view on Espreso TV.
"I suspect we might face a situation where concessions will be necessary if Trump increases pressure on Ukraine. Not just reducing or minimizing supplies, but direct pressure and blackmail. We should be ready for this and take it into account. But if we’re talking about whether a partial or complete halt in U.S. military aid could mathematically force us into serious compromises, the numbers say otherwise. Frankly, the idea that we’re fighting with American weapons is a big myth. We have very few of them. And they arrive in tiny quantities," he said.
Lutsenko believes that properly organizing domestic weapons production would compensate for the shortfall in U.S. supplies.
"During Biden’s presidency, there was an experiment — supply cuts for several months. It showed that we could keep fighting without giving up sovereignty just to appease the U.S. Right now, American weapons account for no more than 20-25% of what we have. Even if we lost a quarter of our weapons, it wouldn’t mean retreat. The real issue is how well we organize our own arms and ammunition production. If we manage that properly and conduct combat operations effectively, we can keep moving forward with our plans for liberation," he added.
- On February 22, Polish President Andrzej Duda met with former U.S. President Donald Trump. After the meeting, he stated, "Without American support, Ukraine will not survive this war."
- On February 25, Serhiy Zgurets, director of the consulting firm Defense Express, noted that European weapons supplies have significantly increased while U.S. shipments continue.
- That same day, military expert and Defense Express editor-in-chief Oleh Katkov stated that major American arms manufacturers could influence Trump’s administration’s decision on supplying weapons to Ukraine.
- Also on February 25, reports indicated that without U.S. assistance, Ukraine could sustain its current combat operations until summer, after which Kyiv might face an ammunition shortage.
