Most war-related deaths in month since 2022: UN estimates number of Ukrainians killed in July
July became the deadliest month for Ukrainian civilians since October 2022. According to the UN, at least 219 civilians were killed and 1,018 were injured
The United Nations report states.
The largest number of casualties occurred as a result of a massive missile attack on July 8, targeting the entire territory of Ukraine. At least 43 civilians, including 5 children, were killed and 147 people, including 7 children, were wounded in Kyiv, Dnipro, Kryvyi Rih and Kyiv region.
The tragedy in Kyiv was particularly horrific, where a missile hit the National Children's Specialized Hospital Okhmatdyt, completely destroying the toxicology department and significantly damaging the Center for Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery.
In June and July, Russian troops shifted their offensive from the Kharkiv region to Donetsk region. This led to an increase in civilian casualties in the region: from 125 killed and wounded in May to 224 in June and 269 in July.
The UN noted that 90 percent of civilian casualties and 86 percent of damage to educational and medical facilities occurred in government-controlled territory.
