Finnish President Stubb may join Zelenskyy for August 18 Trump talks
One of Donald Trump’s “favorite interlocutors”, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, may accompany Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on his August 18 visit to the United States
According to Politico, Stubb is expected to take part in the talks, helping to prevent potential conflicts and urging the American president to include Europe in the negotiations.
Sources also report that NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, who has built a close relationship with Trump, may join the trip to the U.S. as well.
“Europe and Ukraine see Monday’s summit as key to making sure that Trump does not accede to demands from Putin that they find unacceptable, such as ceding Ukrainian territory to Russia that Moscow has only partially taken control of,” the outlet notes.
Politico notes that Trump’s warm embrace with Putin has sparked concern in Europe, where there are fears that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will not receive the same friendly treatment.
- On Monday, August 18, Zelenskyy is scheduled to meet with Trump in Washington. According to The New York Times, it is possible that the Ukrainian leader will be accompanied by one of the heads of European states.
- Meanwhile, Axios reported that Trump invited Zelenskyy to a trilateral meeting with himself and Putin, which is expected to take place on August 22.
