Finland’s Stubb suggests Trump and Putin meet at upcoming G20 summit
Finnish President Alexander Stubb has proposed that U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin hold a meeting on the sidelines of the upcoming G20 summit in South Africa

Speaking on Monday, November 3, Stubb suggested that the two leaders could meet during the G20 summit, which will take place at the end of November in Johannesburg.
He also noted that the world has entered a new nuclear era, where the importance of nuclear weapons is increasing. According to Stubb, recent tests conducted by Russia, NATO, and the United States demonstrate that the multilateral arms control system is collapsing, making global disarmament efforts increasingly difficult.

- On October 16, Donald Trump held a phone conversation with Vladimir Putin and announced plans to meet with him in Budapest. However, on October 23, the U.S. president said he had canceled the planned summit, expressing hope that both the Russian dictator and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy would “act more reasonably.”
- Later, Trump said he was willing to meet with Putin if he believed there was a realistic chance of reaching an agreement to end the war in Ukraine.
- On October 27, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov confirmed that both Putin and Trump remained open to holding a meeting.
