Explosions in Voronezh warehouse after reported UAV attack: People evacuated
Russia reports a nighttime drone attack on the Voronezh region. Allegedly, drone wreckage caused a warehouse fire and detonated "explosive objects." Local authorities announced a state of emergency and ordered people to evacuate from areas affected
On the night of July 7, Ukrainian drones caused powerful explosions at an ammunition depot near the village of Serhiivka in Russia's Voronezh region, according to a source from the Security Forces, quoted by Radio Svoboda. The 9,000 square meter depot stored surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missiles, tank and artillery shells, and firearm ammunition. This depot supplies ammunition to Russian troops in Ukraine.
"Local residents heard an explosion at night, followed by a powerful detonation. A column of smoke was visible for tens of kilometers," said an anonymous source.
The source indicated that, according to forecasts, there is a high likelihood of sudden detonations at facilities of the Russian military-industrial complex involved in the war against Ukraine.
Earlier, the head of the Voronezh region, Aleksandr Gusev, reported the information on the attack.
"Last night, several UAVs were detected and destroyed over the Voronezh region by air defense forces. Their remains caused a fire in a warehouse and detonated explosive objects in the Podgorensky district," he wrote.
Preliminary reports indicate no civilian injuries. Operational services, the military, and authorities are on-site managing the situation.
Buses are ready to evacuate residents of nearby areas, and safety briefings are being conducted.
Local Telegram channels show videos with ongoing detonations of "explosive objects."
Gusev later declared a state of emergency in Podgorensky district. Detonations are still happening, he noted.
According to Gusev, one explosion set a utility building on fire, which has since been extinguished. There are no casualties.
A section of the road through the village is blocked, and citizens are being evacuated to temporary shelters.
- On the night of July 6, Yeisky, Leningradsky, and Pavlovsky districts in Krasnodar Territory also faced a massive drone attack, damaging two oil depots and a mobile phone tower.
