Drones strike oil refinery in Russia’s Saratov, Ukraine allegedly behind attack
On the night of Friday, November 8, Russia reported a drone attack on an oil refinery in Saratov, which caused a fire
The Russian Ministry of Defense, Saratov Region Governor Roman Busargin, and Russian Telegram channels reported the information.
Busargin stated that a UAV was shot down over Saratov during the night, with some of its wreckage falling in the industrial zone of the Zavodskoy district. The governor added that there are no preliminary reports of casualties.
The ASTRA Telegram channel reports that residents of Engels, Saratov region, heard a siren in the city. Later, residents of Saratov reported a fire in the area of the local oil refinery following the UAV attack.
Numerous videos from the scene have also been published, with some residents claiming that the refinery's torch was burning. However, the footage shows that the torch is located to the right of the alleged fire. The channel's authors note that this information has not been confirmed.
The Saratov oil refinery is part of the Rosneft oil company and is located in the Zavodskoy district of Saratov.
According to RBC-Ukraine's sources, the drone attack on the Saratov refinery was an operation of the Ukrainian intelligence service (known by its Ukrainian acronym HUR).
The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed that their air defense systems destroyed and intercepted a total of 17 Ukrainian UAVs last night. According to the Ministry, six UAVs were intercepted over the Voronezh region, six over the Saratov region, four over the Belgorod region, and one over the Bryansk region.
