Ukrainian drones target Russian military port in Caspian Sea for first time
On the morning of November 6, ‘kamikaze’ drones of Ukraine's Defense Intelligence hit a military port in the Russian city of Kaspiysk for the first time
Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, as well as Ukrainska Pravda and Kyiv Post reported this, citing their own sources.
"A port in the Russian city of Kaspiysk was attacked," Kovalenko wrote.
According to Ukrainian media, Kaspiysk is the main basing point for the Caspian Flotilla of the Russian Navy, with a garrison of about 1,500 personnel.
As a result of an innovative special operation by the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, a Russian flotilla in the Caspian Sea was struck for the first time. The target was approximately 1,500 kilometers from Ukraine’s state border.
At least two objects were damaged in the UAV strikes, likely including the Tatarstan and Dagestan missile ships. Small missile ships of the 21631 project were also reportedly affected.
This was first announced by the governor of Dagestan, Sergei Melikov.
“This morning, the air defense forces destroyed an unmanned aerial vehicle over the Caspian Sea. The circumstances of the incident are currently being investigated,” he wrote on Telegram.
Footage showing air defense systems in action has been published online. According to local residents, the explosions occurred around 8:00 a.m. local time, with reports indicating there were two blasts.
The Baza Telegram channel writes that three flights were delayed at Makhachkala airport due to the drone attack. The outlet also claims that Kaspiysk was attacked by a Ukrainian A-22 drone.
Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry reports that drones were shot down over two regions last night. According to them, two drones were allegedly shot down over the Kursk region and another over the Oryol region.
However, the Russian ministry has not yet reported an attack on Dagestan.
