Russia loses nearly 500,000 troops for less than 55 kilometers of gains in Ukraine
Ukrainian National Guard Reserve Major Oleksii Hetman says that the largest advance by the Russian army in 2024 was recorded near Pokrovsk
He said this on the Espreso TV channel.
"When we talk about the enemy's major advances, we often focus on how many square kilometers the Russians have captured. But back in World War II, we measured progress by how far the enemy moved into territory. In other words, we talked about distance covered during a period or operation. Back then, no one really used the term ‘square kilometers’, but now it's become the norm. And it makes it look like a lot," Hetman said.
According to him, DeepState reported that in November last year, the Russians captured 700 sq. km of Ukrainian territory, while this year it's only 100–130 sq. km. He said those figures are accurate.
"But if you look at how far the occupiers have actually moved into our territory in 2024, the biggest advance was near Pokrovsk. The distance between Pokrovsk and Donetsk is 55 km. So, after losing nearly half a million troops in a year, the Russian army has advanced less than 55 km," Hetman stressed.
- Ukrainian Armed Forces officer, Lieutenant Colonel Serhiy Tsekhotskyi, says that Russia has concentrated the most forces in the Pokrovsk direction but is unable to dislodge the Defense Forces’ positions.
- Since the beginning of April 7, there have been 77 combat clashes on the Russian-Ukrainian front. The Pokrovsk direction saw the highest number of attacks.
