Deployment of peacekeepers in Ukraine risks direct clash between Russia and NATO – Russian MFA
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that deploying peacekeepers in Ukraine would serve as a pretext for a direct confrontation between Russia and NATO
This was reported by Russia’s Interfax news agency.
"Russia is categorically opposed to such a scenario, as it threatens a direct clash between Russia and NATO," she said, commenting on the UK and France’s initiative to form a "coalition of the willing" to ensure peace in Ukraine.
The Kremlin propagandist claimed that "in reality, this is a military intervention in Ukraine disguised as a peacekeeping mission." She also alleged that "the British fully understand the risks of the geopolitical game being played, which is why they are pushing the idea of ‘depersonalizing’ peacekeeper uniforms — removing chevrons or other markings that could identify them."
"We know why they are doing this. They want to drag Europe into a bloodbath," Zakharova added.
- French President Emmanuel Macron stated that the proposed peacekeeping force would be capable of repelling a Russian attack if Moscow attempts to invade Ukraine again.
