Dealing with Ukraine is more difficult, they don’t have the cards — Trump
U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday that he believes negotiating with Moscow to end the war against Ukraine would be easier than working with Kyiv, claiming that Russian leader Vladimir Putin holds “all the cards”
CNN reported the information.
Trump noted that, given the current situation on the battlefield, “anyone” in Putin's position would be bombing Ukraine. Although he stated his desire to help Ukraine, Trump emphasized that Kyiv needed to “get on the ball” and move toward peace talks.
“I think we’re doing very well with Russia, but right now they’re bombing the hell out of Ukraine. And Ukraine, I’m finding it more difficult, frankly, to deal with Ukraine, and they don’t have the cards,” Trump said from the Oval Office.
When discussing the possibility of reaching a final settlement, Trump suggested that it might be easier to negotiate with Russia, “which is surprising, because they have all the cards,” he added.
Earlier in the day, Trump had threatened new sanctions against Russia in response to its ongoing strikes across Ukraine. However, in the Oval Office, he continued to adopt a more conciliatory tone toward Putin.
“I actually think he’s doing what anybody else would do,” Trump said. “I think he wants to get it stopped and settled.”
“He’s been hitting him. And I think probably anybody in that position would be doing that right now. He wants to get it ended,” Trump added.
