China halts drone sales to Ukraine while supplying Russia
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has claimed that China has stopped selling Mavic drones to Ukraine and other European countries, while continuing to supply them to Russia
Bloomberg reported the statement, citing Zelenskyy’s comments to journalists.
“Chinese Mavic is open for Russians but is closed for Ukrainians,” Zelenskyy told a group of reporters on Tuesday. “There are production lines on Russian territory where there are Chinese representatives,” he added.
A European official confirmed that Zelenskyy’s remarks align with their own assessment. According to the official, China appears to have reduced sales of certain drone components—such as magnets used in motors—to Western buyers, while increasing shipments to Russia.
Bloomberg notes that Beijing has repeatedly stated it controls the export of so-called dual-use goods—like drones—that could be used for military purposes.
“China’s stance on Ukraine issue has been consistent and clear: we have been committed to stopping the war and promoting peace talks,” the foreign ministry said in a statement sent to the Bloomberg News.
- Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning denies Ukraine’s accusations that China supplies lethal weapons to Russia’s military industry.
