"Biden's position will depend on what Blinken heard in Kyiv": analyst on greenlight to strike at Russia
Head of the Centre for Analysis and Strategies Ihor Chalenko noted that the United Kingdom is pushing the United States to permit using long-range Western weapons on the territory of the Russian Federation
He said this on the Espreso TV channel.
‘The UK is pushing the US for a positive response. Take, for example, the Guardian and other media, where certain sources and insights appear. But it is clear that Biden's position will depend on the answer that Blinken heard during his visit to Kyiv,’ Chalenko said.
According to the head of the Centre for Analysis and Strategies, Blinken's visit was not just a courtesy visit. ‘It was a visit to synchronize watches and understand positions. If we could voice a sufficient minimum, we would get the green light to use long-range Western weapons on Russian territory.
‘Everything possible has been done in the media sphere to get this permission. Starting from the leak of intelligence data and confirmation of information about the provision of Iranian ballistic missiles to the Russian Federation on September 4, when 220 Fath-360 missiles were sent across the Caspian Sea. The actions that are taking place today can no longer be understood as an element of escalation or raising the temperature. No, this is an element of specific defense of Ukraine. This is an opportunity for the Ukrainian Armed Forces to neutralize the Russian threat,’ Chalenko stressed.
- The day before, The Guardian reported, citing sources in the British government, that senior UK officials had decided to allow Ukraine to strike targets in Russia with Storm Shadow missiles.
- The White House is finalizing a plan to ease some restrictions on how Ukraine can use weapons provided by the United States.
