As Ukrainian forces advance in Kursk, Russia escalates attacks on Sumy border
Amid the Ukrainian Defense Forces' offensive in Russia's Kursk region, Russian attacks on the border areas of Ukraine's Sumy region have intensified
The head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, Volodymyr Artiukh, reported the information in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.
He noted that Russian attacks have intensified in the areas through which Ukrainian soldiers entered the Kursk region.
"Where our troops entered the Kursk region, the number of attacks increased. However, the enemy has been pushed back 20-30 kilometers from the border, leading to a decrease in the number of artillery systems, machine guns, and small arms," said Artiukh.
He also highlighted the significant increase in the number of air strikes, with Russian troop s launching 30-40 guided bombs per day.
“While last year these were isolated incidents, now it is happening on a systematic basis. We record strikes on Ukrainian critical infrastructure facilities and on populated areas - private houses or high-rise buildings,” said the head of the Regional Military Administration.
In his opinion, the purpose of such attacks is to demoralize the population and force them to leave the areas where they live.
“And also to create conditions by destroying life support systems - energy systems, water supply, mobile communications - under which it would be difficult for the population to stay here,” emphasized Artiukh.
- On Monday evening, November 18, Russian forces struck the town of Hlukhiv in the Sumy region. At least 10 people were killed, with several injured, including children.
