Trump to exit peace talks after 30-day ceasefire, shifting blame to Europe — diplomat
Diplomat Roman Bezsmertnyi noted that Russia has not intended — and still does not intend — to observe any ceasefire
He said this on Espreso TV.
"The option Donald Trump dreams of is to negotiate a temporary ceasefire concerning energy infrastructure and the Black Sea, achieving a 30-day ceasefire, and then transitioning to a permanent one.
At the same time, no one is talking or will talk about a peace agreement or a just peace, because after the 30-day ceasefire, Donald Trump and his entourage will withdraw from the process and shift everything onto Europe. They will say: 'Look how great we are, we achieved this, and now you do whatever you want,'" Bezsmertnyi suggested.
According to the diplomat, there is almost no difference between a scenario where no agreement is reached and what Donald Trump wants. In reality, Russia has never intended to honor any ceasefire. Even if it formally agrees, it will regularly violate the terms—this has happened more than 50 times between 2014 and 2021.
"I don't expect enlightenment in Washington. For that to happen, minds need to be open to communication. But when some have partially atrophied from old age and others have not yet acquired the necessary knowledge for information to reach them and trigger action, these two generations clearly demonstrate their inability to respond adequately in such situations," Bezsmertnyi noted.
The diplomat concluded that in the current situation, everything depends on Ukraine’s clear, firm, concrete, and well-balanced position.
"Such a position could guide both sides on how the situation may develop, relying on a common stance with European partners," Bezsmertnyi added.
- The fifth president of Ukraine, leader of the European Solidarity party, Petro Poroshenko, believes that Ukraine is interested in both a 30-day ceasefire and a comprehensive peace agreement.
