89 clashes occur on Russian-Ukrainian front on January 18 - General Staff

On January 18, 89 combat clashes took place on the Russian-Ukrainian front. The Russian forces are most active in the Pokrovsk direction

The Ukrainian Armed Forces' General Staff stated this as of 4:00 p.m. on January 18.

Communities in Tymofiivka in the Kharkiv region, Zaliznyi Mist in the Chernihiv region, as well as Popivka, Sosnivka, and Prohres in the Sumy region, were affected by enemy artillery and mortar fire today.

Frontline situation

In the Kharkiv direction, the Russian enemy attacked Ukrainian positions five times near Vovchansk.

In the Kupyansk direction, the Russian forces launched four assaults on the Defense Forces' positions near Petropavlivka, Lozova, and Pishchane. 

In the Lyman direction, the invading Russian troops launched nine attacks near Zelenyi Hai, Pershotravneve, Kopanky, Novoiehorivka, Novosadove, Novoliubivka, and Zarichne. Four clashes are ongoing.

In the Kramatorsk direction, the Russians attacked four times near Chasiv Yar and Stupochky. Two guided aerial  bombs were dropped on Markove.

In the Toretsk direction, there were 16 Russian attacks near Toretsk, Krymske, and Shcherbynivka. Ukrainian soldiers have repelled 10 of them, with battles still ongoing.

In the Pokrovsk direction, the Russian forces made 32 attempts to push Ukrainian defenders out of their positions near Vodiane Druhe, Yelyzavetivka, Promin, Lysivka, Zelene, Shevchenko, Uspenivka, Slovyanka, Andriivka, Dachne, Ulakly, and Yantarne. Defense Forces repelled 28 attacks, with four clashes ongoing.

In the Novopavlivka direction, the Russian invaders attacked 12 times near Velyka Novosilka. Battles continue. The enemy attacked Odradne, Rozlyv, Vesele, and Temyrivka with guided aerial bombs.

In the Orikhiv direction, occupation forces launched one assault near Novodanylivka.

In the Prydniprovskyi direction, the Russian enemy unsuccessfully tried to storm Defense Forces' positions once.

In the Kursk region, Ukrainian soldiers repelled five attacks, with three clashes ongoing. The enemy carried out 224 artillery strikes, including four from multiple launch rocket systems.

In the Siversk and Huliaipole directions, Russia has not conducted active operations since the beginning of the day.

  • On January 17, 174 clashes occurred on the Russian-Ukrainian front. Ukrainian defenders stopped 79 Russian assaults in the Pokrovsk direction.
