This was reported by Oleksandr Riabtsev from the Main Directorate of Mine Action, as stated by Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense.
"Most accidents happened due to careless handling of explosive devices, with 221 victims. There were also 188 incidents during agricultural work, 145 while traveling, and 123 during household tasks," Riabtsev said.
75% of these accidents are caused by mines.
The Ministry of Defense previously reported that up to 20% of shells and other ammunition do not detonate in the combat zone. About one-fifth of Ukraine's territory still needs to be cleared of unexploded ordnance.
- Since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion, a total of 5,308 square kilometers of Ukraine’s territory have been surveyed and cleared of mines. Ukraine’s Defense Ministry reported this information on September 20, 2024.
