134 artists died in Ukraine because of Russia's war — Ministry of Culture
Russian military aggression has claimed the lives of 134 Ukrainian artists and 93 media professionals, including 7 foreigners, who told the world about the events in Ukraine
This was reported by the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications.
‘This data is not only about the scale of losses, but also reminds us of the tragic pages of our history. Just as in the 20s and early 30s of the 20th century, the Stalinist regime destroyed a generation of Ukrainian artists, so today Russia is purposefully destroying the cultural elite of Ukraine,’ the ministry said.
The Ministry noted that journalists currently working in Ukraine are creating important news, investigations and reports in a high-risk environment. They record the events of the war to provide Ukraine and the world with true information about what is happening.
During the war, not only Ukrainian but also 7 foreign media workers who told the world about the events in Ukraine were killed.
‘Systematic crimes against journalists and the media committed by Russia pose a serious threat to freedom of speech and information security, undermine democratic values and human rights,’ the Ministry of Culture added.
- Earlier on December 5, it was reported that musician and soldier Yuriy Melofon was killed in the war.
