Russia says 48 drones shot down as Moscow region comes under attack

The Russian Defense Ministry says its forces shot down 48 drones overnight. Some of the drones targeted the Moscow region, causing disruptions at airports

The ministry reported this on Telegram.

It said that overnight, Russian air defense systems destroyed or intercepted 48 drones:

  • 30 UAVs over Belgorod region
  •  4 UAVs over Oryol region
  •  4 UAVs over Ryazan region
  •  4 UAVs over the Republic of Crimea
  • 3 UAVs over Moscow region
  • 2 UAVs over Bryansk region
  • 1 UAV over Tambov region

"Defense Ministry air defense forces repelled an attack by three drones that targeted the Moscow region. According to early reports, there are no serious injuries or casualties. Emergency services are working at the scene of the debris," Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin wrote at 01:56 a.m.

Earlier, Moscow's Vnukovo Airport announced temporary flight restrictions "to ensure flight safety."

  • On May 28, the Russian Defense Ministry reported it had shot down 296 drones. The "Carpet" plan was activated at airports near Moscow. Two facilities were hit.
  • Later, Defense Express reported a drone strike on the Kronstadt plant in the Moscow region. The plant manufactures Orion drones and Banderol cruise missiles.
