The Ukrainian Armed Forces' General Staff shared their regular report, as below.

The total Russian combat losses from February 24, 2022, to November 17, 2023, amounted to:

  • personnel - about 316,620 (+1,140 per day)
  • tanks - 5,415 (+27) 
  • armored fighting vehicles - 10,132 (+11)
  • artillery systems - 7,712 (+29)
  • MLRS - 895 (+3)
  • air defense systems - 585 
  • aircraft - 323 
  • helicopters - 324 
  • UAV operational-tactical level - 5,709 (+20)
  • cruise missiles - 1,563 
  • ships/boats - 22 
  • submarines - 1 
  • vehicles and tank trucks - 10,077 (+17)
  • special equipment - 1,086 (+2)

General Staff report: Russia keeps trying to encircle Avdiivka, Ukrainian Armed Forces hold defense and repel Russian attacks

The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces shared the information in its morning report.

Near the state Ukrainian border with Russia and Belarus, the situation hasn't changed significantly.

In the northeastern border area, Russian forces maintain a grouping of troops covering the state border, conducting active sabotage activities in the border areas to prevent the deployment of Ukrainian troops to threatened areas, and increasing the density of minefields along the state border in the Belgorod region.

In the Kupyansk direction, Russian troops conducted assault operations near Synkivka and Petropavlivka, Kharkiv region. Ukrainian troops repelled four attacks.

In the Lyman direction, Russian troops launched an assault near Bilohorivka, Luhansk region, and were unsuccessful.

In the Bakhmut direction, the Russian military conducted assault operations near Ivanivske, Klishchiivka and Andriivka, Donetsk region. Ukrainian defenders repelled 18 attacks. The Ukrainian Defense Forces are also carrying out assault operations south of Bakhmut in Donetsk region, inflicting losses in manpower and equipment on Russian forces, and consolidating their positions.

In the Avdiivka direction, Russian forces are trying to encircle Avdiivka. Ukrainian soldiers are holding steadfast, inflicting significant losses on the enemy. The Russian offensive actions east of Stepove, Avdiivka and Pervomaiske in the Donetsk region were unsuccessful. Ukrainian troops repelled 17 attacks there.

In the Marinka direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 19 attacks near Marinka and Novomykhailivka, Donetsk region.

In the Shakhtarsk direction, Russian troops conducted unsuccessful assault operations near Staromayorske, Donetsk region.

In the Zaporizhzhia direction, Russian troops conducted unsuccessful assault operations near Robotyne and west of Verbove, Zaporizhzhia region. Ukrainian defenders repelled 6 attacks.

In the Melitopol direction, the Ukrainian Defence Forces are conducting an offensive operation, inflicting losses in manpower and equipment on the occupying forces, consolidating their positions and exhausting Russian troops.

In the Kherson direction, Ukrainian defenders are conducting counter-battery combat and inflicting fire on the enemy's rear.

Russian army launches 12 missile and 47 air strikes on Ukrainian territory

Over the past day, Russian troops launched an air strike on Ukraine, using 18 Shahed-136/131 attack UAVs. Ukrainian air defense forces destroyed 16 attack UAVs. Last night Russia attacked Ukraine with Shahed-136/131 UAVs. Information on the consequences of this terrorist attack is currently being clarified.

Over the last day, 72 combat clashes took place. In total, Russia launched 12 missile and 47 air strikes, and 38 MLRS attacks at the positions of Ukrainian troops and populated areas. 

Russian troops launched air strikes on 8 settlements across Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, and Zaporizhzhia regions.

Over 100 settlements in Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson and Mykolaiv regions came under Russian artillery fire.

Ukrainian Defense Forces destroy 2 Russian control points and 2 ammunition depots

During the day, Ukrainian aviation carried out 2 strikes on concentrations of Russian personnel, weapons and military equipment.

Ukrainian missile troops hit 3 concentrations of Russian personnel, weapons and military equipment, 6 artillery pieces, 2 command posts and 2 ammunition depots.

  • On the night of Friday, November 17, Russian drones attacked Ukraine from the south, with air defense forces operating in the Khmelnytskyi region.
