Russia loses 540 soldiers, 15 UAVs, and 27 artillery systems in one day – General Staff

This is reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The total combat losses of the enemy from February 24, 2022 to August 2, 2023 were approximately:

• personnel - about 247,230 (+540) 
• tanks ‒ 4217 (+1)
• armored personnel vehicles ‒ 8213 (+8)
• artillery systems – 4866 (+27)
• MLRS – 700 (+1)
• anti-aircraft warfare systems ‒ 463 (+1)
• planes – 315 (+0)
• helicopters – 311 (+0)
• UAVs operational-tactical level – 4042 (+15)
• cruise missiles ‒ 1347 (+0)
• warships/boats ‒ 18 (+0)
• vehicles and fuel tanks – 7349 (+25)
• special equipment ‒ 718 (+0)

More than 40 combat clashes occurred at the front over one day

This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the morning briefing on August 2.

Situation in different regions of Ukraine 

On the northern Ukrainian border with Belarus, the operational situation has not changed. 

On the northeastern border with Russia, Russian troops launched air strikes on one settlement in the Sumy region. They also launched mortar and artillery attacks, targeting a total of over 25 settlements across Chernihiv, Sumy and Kharkiv regions.

In the Kupyansk direction, Russian troops shelled 7 settlements across the Kharkiv region. 

In the Lyman direction, Russian troops shelled 6 settlements across the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. 

In the Bakhmut direction, Russians shelled over 15 settlements in the Donetsk region with artillery. Ukrainian forces successfully repelled Russian attacks in the area of Klishchiivka. 

In the Avdiivka direction, Russian troops shelled over 10 settlements with artillery. Ukrainian forces repelled all the attacks near Avdiivka.  

In the Marinka direction, Russian troops shelled over 15 settlements in the Donetsk region with artillery. Ukrainian forces hold the defense near Marinka. One area suffered from air strikes. 

In the Shakhtarsk direction, Russian troops shelled over 15 settlements and launched air strikes near 2 settlements. They attempted to reclaim lost positions near Staromayorske, unsuccessfully. 

In the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson directions, Russian troops are on the defensive. They shelled over 25 settlements across Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions. One area suffered from air strikes. 

Meanwhile, the Defense Forces of Ukraine continue their offensive operation in Melitopol and Berdyansk directions. They are holding their positions and countering enemy attacks.

Russia carried out 75 air strikes and 68 MLRS attacks against Ukraine 

On the last day, the Russians launched one missile attack, conducted 75 air strikes and 68 MLRS attacks at Ukrainian troops and populated areas. Civilians were also harmed in these attacks.

The likelihood of more missile and air strikes across Ukraine remains high.

AFU hit 14 Russian artillery systems, 4 EW stations and 4 command posts 

During the past 24 hours, the Air Force of the Defense Forces carried out 8 strikes on areas where the enemy's troops, weapons, and military equipment were gathered. They targeted 1 command post and 1 anti-aircraft missile complex of the occupiers.

Additionally, the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed 14 artillery pieces in their firing positions, 4 radio-electronic warfare stations, 4 command posts, 1 area with enemy weapons and military equipment, 6 anti-aircraft defense systems, 3 areas with enemy personnel, 1 ammunition depot, and two other important enemy facilities.

• On July 31, Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense reported that the Armed Forces had advanced by another 12.6 square kilometers in the south and 2 square kilometers towards Bakhmut in the past week.
