Russia loses 500 soldiers, 13 UAVs, and 5 tanks in one day – General Staff

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Russia has lost 237,680 soldiers in Ukraine. Over the past day, 39 combat clashes took place in 5 frontline directions

From February 24, 2022 to July 16, 2023, Russia lost:

Russia focuses on 5 directions: 39 combat clashes took place there during one day

The Ukrainian Armed Forces' General Staff reported that the enemy is focusing its main efforts in several directions, including Kupyansk, Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka, and Marinka. In the past day, there were 39 combat clashes.

Russia carried out 40 airstrikes and fired 46 MLRS attacks throughout the day

Additionally, two Iranian Shahed UAVs, two Kh-22 cruise missiles, and two anti-aircraft guided missiles were used by Russian terrorists to attack Ukraine. The Air Defense Forces of Ukraine successfully destroyed two attack drones.

Furthermore, the enemy conducted 40 airstrikes and launched 46 MLRS attacks, as reported by the General Staff.

Situation in different regions of Ukraine 

On the northern Ukrainian border with Belarus, the operational situation has not changed. Certain units of the Armed Forces of Belarus perform tasks in the areas bordering Ukraine.

On the northeastern border with Russia, Russian troops launched air strikes on 2 settlements in the Sumy and Kharkiv regions. They also launched mortar and artillery attacks, targeting a total of over 20 settlements across Chernihiv, Sumy and Kharkiv regions.

In the Kupyansk direction, Russian troops shelled 7 settlements across the Kharkiv and Luhansk regions. One area suffered from air strikes and Russian offensive actions. Ukrainian forces hold the defense. 

In the Lyman direction, Russian troops shelled over 6 settlements across the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. More than 7 areas were subjected to air strikes. 

In the Bakhmut direction, Russians shelled over 15 settlements in the Donetsk region with artillery. Ukrainian forces successfully repelled Russian attacks in the area of Andriivka. Two areas were subjected to air strikes. 

In the Avdiivka direction, Russian troops shelled over 15 settlements with artillery, and one area suffered from air strikes. 

In the Marinka direction, Russian troops shelled over 10 settlements in the Donetsk region with artillery. Ukrainian forces repelled all the attacks. 

In the Shakhtarsk direction, Russian troops shelled over 5 settlements and launched air strikes near 3 settlements.  

In Zaporizhzhia and Kherson directions, Russian troops launched air strikes near 1 settlement and shelled over 25 settlements across Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, and Mykolaiv regions.

Ukrainian forces hit two Russian air defense systems, 4 personnel positions, and 4 EW stations

The Ukrainian defense forces are continuing their advance in the Melitopol and Berdyansk directions. They are fortifying their positions at the achieved boundaries, causing damage to identified enemy targets through artillery fire, and implementing countermeasures against enemy artillery.

The Defense Forces' aviation conducted 9 strikes on enemy personnel concentration areas within a day. Additionally, 7 reconnaissance UAVs were destroyed, and Ukrainian military forces targeted and destroyed 2 ammunition depots, 5 artillery pieces in firing positions, 4 manpower concentration areas, 4 electronic warfare stations, 2 anti-aircraft defense equipment, and 3 other significant enemy facilities.
