Russia loses 4 tanks, 15 artillery systems, 530 soldiers in one day of war in Ukraine — General Staff

As of the morning of Sunday, September 17, Ukrainian Defense Forces are defending eastern and southern Ukraine, advancing in the Melitopol and Bakhmut directions. Russia has lost another 530 soldiers

The Ukrainian Armed Forces' General Staff shared their regular report, as below.

The total Russian combat losses from February 24, 2022, to September 17, 2023, amounted to:

  • personnel - about 272,320 (+530 per day) 
  • tanks - 4,620 (+4)
  • armored fighting vehicles - 8,828 (+4)
  • artillery systems - 6,003 (+15)
  • MLRS - 776 (+2)
  • air defense systems - 523 (+2)
  • aircraft - 315
  • helicopters - 316
  • vehicles and tank trucks - 8,537 (+12)
  • ships/boats - 20
  • submarines - 1
  • UAV operational-tactical level - 4,742 (+4)
  • special equipment - 896 (+5)
  • cruise missiles - 1,455

General Staff report: Ukrainian Defense Forces hold initiative in Avdiivka, Marinka and Shakhtarsk directions

Ukrainian defenders are putting pressure on Russian forces, conducting assault operations and recapturing Ukrainian land.

Thus, according to the Ukrainian General Staff, over 30 combat clashes took place at the frontline over the past day.

In the area of the northern Ukrainian border with Belarus, the operational situation has not changed. 

In the northeastern border area, Russian forces maintain a grouping of troops covering the state border, conducting active sabotage activities in the border areas to prevent the deployment of Ukrainian troops to threatened areas, and increasing the density of minefields along the state border in the Belgorod region.

In Bakhmut direction, Ukrainian Defense Forces successfully repelled 13 attacks near Klishchiivka, Donetsk region. Russian troops unsuccessfully tried to break through the Ukrainian defense near Kurdyumivka and Andriivka, Donetsk region. As a result of the offensive (assault) actions, the Ukrainian Defense Forces succeeded near Klishchiivka, Donetsk region, and dislodged Russian troops from their positions.

In Marinka direction, Russian troops launched futile offensives near Marinka, Donetsk region. Here, they made 11 unsuccessful attempts to dislodge Ukrainian units out of their positions yesterday. In addition, all attacks near Sieverne, Rivnopil, Donetsk region, and Novodarivka, Zaporizhzhia region, resulted in significant losses for the occupying forces in both manpower and equipment.

In Melitopol direction, the Ukrainian Defence Forces are conducting an offensive operation, inflicting significant losses in manpower and equipment on the occupying forces, and are forcing Russian troops to withdraw from their positions.

In Kherson direction, the Ukrainian Defence Forces continue to conduct counter-battery operations, destroy Russian depots and successfully strike at the enemy's rear.

Russia launches 30 MLRS attacks at Ukraine in a day

In addition, Russian troops launched 8 missile attacks and 57 air strikes on the positions of Ukrainian troops and populated areas. Also, civilians in Kharkiv suffered from cynical missile attacks. Unfortunately, Russian terrorist attacks have resulted in deaths and injuries among the civilian population. Over 15 private residential buildings were destroyed and damaged, as well as a lyceum and other civilian infrastructure.

Russia targeted about 20 settlements with air strikes.

About 100 settlements in Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions came under Russian artillery fire.

Also, during the day, the aviation of the Ukrainian Defense Forces carried out 12 strikes on concentrations of Russian weapons and military equipment and 5 strikes on anti-aircraft missile systems.

Ukrainian missile troops also destroyed 3 Buk-M1 anti-aircraft missile systems and 5 artillery pieces.
