Ukraine honors agreements, while Russia fabricates fake attacks on power facilities — Ukraine’s General Staff
The Russian Ministry of Defense is spreading fake news, falsely claiming that Ukraine is deliberately targeting energy facilities in Russia and Russian-occupied territories
Ukraine’s General Staff shared the information.
"We emphasize that the Defense Forces of Ukraine strictly adhere to the agreements reached with our partners to halt strikes on energy facilities. Our operations are carried out exclusively against military targets of the Russian occupying forces. However, we have recorded specific violations of these agreements by the Russian army, including Russian strikes that damaged energy infrastructure in the Kherson and Poltava regions over the past day. We expect an appropriate response from our partners," the General Staff stated.
The General Staff added that these disinformation campaigns spread by Russia are designed to discredit Kyiv and undermine the diplomatic efforts of Ukraine and its partners. They further stated that Russia's tactics of prolonging the war remain unchanged.
Earlier, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov claimed that Ukraine was violating the moratorium on strikes against the energy sector, allowing Russia to “reserve the right not to enforce this moratorium.”
Russian propaganda outlet TASS quoted Peskov as saying, "All branches of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are disregarding orders from the Ukrainian leadership and are targeting Russian energy infrastructure, revealing a complete lack of control over the Ukrainian military."
Previously, Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation under Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council, reported that Russia had once again struck its own gas transportation system, specifically the Sudzha gas metering station in the Kursk region, which is currently not under Russian control.
Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry claimed that on March 28, Ukraine allegedly used HIMARS to strike the Sudzha gas metering station, resulting in a massive fire that effectively destroyed the energy facility. They also stated that Kyiv's public promises to halt deliberate attacks on Russian civilian energy infrastructure were “merely another ploy by Zelenskyy to prevent the collapse of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' front and regain military strength with the help of European ‘allies.’"
- This is not the first time Russia has accused Ukraine of targeting the Sudzha station. Following similar accusations from Moscow on March 21, the Ukrainian Armed Forces responded, calling it a provocation by the Russian side.
