Ukraine's top official confirms Kyiv's involvement in terrorist attack in Moscow region: new Russian fake
Russian propaganda is spreading fake news that National Security and Defense Council Secretary Oleksiy Danilov has allegedly confirmed that Ukraine is involved in a terrorist attack in Russia
The Center for Strategic Communications and Information Security reports.
"Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov publicly confirmed that Ukraine is involved in the terrorist attack in the Russian Crocus City Hall that took place on the evening of March 22," the propaganda channel NTV has posted a video from an allegedly Ukrainian TV channel.
In fact, to create the fake, the Russians used some of the footage from the March 16 telethon and replaced the guest, the head of the Ukrainian Defence Intelligence, Budanov, with a fake video of Danilov.
The video does not match Danilov's facial expressions and speech, indicating that a deepfake may have been used.
The Center for Countering Disinformation also confirmed that this information is fake: "The quality of the deepfake is very low, its artificiality is evident from the very first second of watching, Oleksiy Danilov's facial expressions and speech do not match at all."
