Russia attacks Kyiv city and region with Shahed drones, causing damage and casualties

On the night of December 19, Russian forces attacked Kyiv city and the region with Shahed UAVs. Ukrainian air defense forces have shot down 18 drones, but some managed to hit critical infrastructure

Serhiy Popko, head of Kyiv city military administration, reported the information.

"During the air raid alert, 23 enemy UAVs were spotted in the sky over the capital. Our defense forces destroyed 18 drones. There were no casualties. However, fragments damaged the roadway in the Solomianskyi district, as well as the windows of a high-rise building in the Shevchenkivskyi district," he noted.

Earlier, Vitali Klitschko, the mayor of Kyiv, said that as a result of the attack on the capital, critical infrastructure facilities were damaged. Power engineers and heat engineers are working to quickly stabilize the power and heat supply.

In turn, the head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration Oleksiy Kuleba said that as a result of the night attack by drones in the Kyiv region, infrastructure facilities and private houses were damaged. 

"Preliminary, 2 people were injured. People are being provided assistance, they are under the supervision of doctors. All services are on the ground. We are working to eliminate the consequences of the strikes. More details later. The terrorist country continues the war against civilians. We will overcome everything. The enemy has already lost," he stressed.

Earlier Vitali Klitschko reported on Telegram that “Several explosions occurred in Solomyanskyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts of the capital.”

The air raid alert in the capital was triggered at 01:56 a.m.. The first reports about the drone attack and air defense operation appeared around 03:20 a.m..

At 04:45 a.m., the Kyiv Military Administration stated that Russian forces attacked the capital with Shahed barrage munitions. Air defense was operating. At that time, 9 enemy UAVs were shot down in Kyiv airspace.

At 05:03 a.m., explosions rang out in Kyiv again. The air raid alert was canceled at 05:15 a.m.. However, at 05:24 a.m. it was triggered again and lasted until 05:50 a.m.

On December 16, enemy troops attacked Kyiv and the region with missiles. Due to damage to the energy infrastructure, there were interruptions in water supply and electricity in all districts of the capital and the region. The subway traffic was also stopped that day.
