Russia attacks cities in northern and southern Ukraine: missile hits residential building in Mykolaiv downtown, victims are reported

On the night of July 20, Russia attacked several regions of Ukraine: an administrative building was destroyed in Odesa, 4 people were injured; a fire broke out in a residential building in Mykolaiv, there are killed and at least 19 wounded

According to Natalia Humeniuk, head of the coordinating press center for the southern security and defense forces, a massive mixed missile and drone attack was launched last night. During the attack, the Russian army used missiles of various types.

"Missiles of various types were used. A submarine that was on duty in the Black Sea and strategic aviation with Kh-22 missiles were involved, and coastal missile systems, Onyx and Iskander missiles were used," she emphasized.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia fired 38 missiles and drones. However, Ukrainian air defense destroyed 18 targets.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has reacted to Russia's night attack. He said that Russia has no missiles that are stronger than the will of Ukrainians to save lives and support each other. 

Attack on Odesa and the region

The building of the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Odesa was damaged as a result of a nighttime Russian attack. This was reported by the head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, Oleh Kiper.

"The aggressor deliberately hits the port infrastructure - administrative and residential buildings around it, as well as the Consulate of the People's Republic of China, were damaged. This shows that Russia pays no attention to anything," he wrote.

As of 11:08 a.m., there was information about one person killed in the nighttime Russian attack in Odesa. Oleр Kiper said that the victim was a guard of a civilian building, a man born in 2002.

At 11:40 a.m., it was reported that eight people were injured in the night attack in Odesa, including three employees of the State Emergency Service. Fortunately, there were no casualties in the region.

Three of the victims, including a rescuer, were hospitalized, all in moderate condition. People suffered shrapnel wounds and smoke poisoning. 

Earlier, it was reported that an administrative building was destroyed in the downtown of Odesa. The consequences are still being clarified, as the blast wave damaged many houses and various buildings around. At least 4 victims were reportedly provided with medical aid.

Logistics facilities, including warehouses, were struck, says the head of the coordination press center of the security and defense forces in the south.

Serhiy Bratchuk, spokesman for the Ukrainian Volunteer Army South, told Espreso that there is a child among the victims.

"During the rescue operation, 1 person was rescued from the rubble, no one was killed. The fire broke out on an area of 500 square meters. The destruction of this building is quite significant. Windows were smashed, doors were blown out, and there is glass everywhere on the street," he said.

In the morning, the head of the Odesa Regional State Administration, Oleh Kiper, posted on Telegram that as a result of the Russian attack, there was destruction in the center of Odesa and a fire broke out. The official said that there were also hits in Odesa region

Destruction in Mykolaiv

Mykolaiv police chief Serhiy Shayhet said that as of 4:35 p.m., the death toll from the nighttime strike on Mykolaiv had risen to two.

"The body of an elderly woman, the wife of the killed man who was taken out of the rubble of the damaged house earlier, was recovered from the rubble," he said.

Search operations continue, police document the consequences of the shelling

As of 10:25 a.m., one person has been reported dead as a result of a nighttime attack on Mykolaiv. This was reported to Suspilne by Deputy Mayor of Mykolaiv Anatoliy Petrov. According to him, emergency workers are removing a body from the rubble.

The Russians launched a missile attack on the city at around 03:03. As a result of the strike, several floors of a three-story building were destroyed and a fire broke out over an area of 450 square meters, which firefighters extinguished at 07:45. The rubble is being cleared. Neighboring multi-story buildings were damaged. 

Three garages caught fire and were quickly extinguished. About 15 garages were damaged and windows were smashed in several high-rise buildings located nearby. 

In total, 19 people were injured in the missile strike. Eight people sought medical assistance - two of them, including a child, were hospitalized. 

Two people were rescued from the rubble - a man and a woman. As for the resettlement of people, the authorities have two locations. Representatives of the district administration are working with the residents, emphasizes Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych.

Investigators, criminalists from the regional police headquarters, rescuers, representatives of the Prosecutor's Office and the Security Service of Ukraine are working at the scene.

Vitaliy Kim, head of the Mykolaiv regional military administration, noted that a residential building caught fire as a result of the shelling. He added that there were some casualties.

Earlier, Sienkevych said that the rocket hit the city center: "At one of the addresses there is a huge crater near a three-story residential building. The fire is very serious. Rescuers are already working at the scene. There are many damaged houses around. Several garages are burning at another address. Rescuers are extinguishing the fire," said the mayor.

Attack on Sumy

Around 01:30 a.m. Sumy was attacked by three Shahed 136 UAVs. One of them was shot down, the second was shot down by air defense forces.

The third one hit the building of a recreation center. As a result, the building was damaged and caught fire. An ambulance team provided assistance to the nurse of the institution at the scene.

According to preliminary information, no people were found under the rubble. The fire was extinguished. A total of 19 personnel and 7 units of equipment of the State Emergency Service were working at the scene.

Drones in Chernihiv region

Last night, the enemy attacked Semenivka with Shahed-type kamikaze drones. There were hits to residential buildings. The number of casualties is being clarified. Residents are being resettled, says Vyacheslav Chaus, head of Chernihiv Military Administration.

First, Sumy Regional Military Administration wrote about the explosions on Telegram.

The regional military administration reported on the work of the Air Defense Forces in the region. Residents were urged to stay in shelters or follow the two-wall rule during the air raid.

It should be noted that according to the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, after midnight, the alert was announced in Poltava, Mykolaiv, Kherson, Sumy, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro and Chernihiv regions. Later, the threat of a missile attack was reported in Odesa, Kirovohrad, and Vinnytsia regions. At around 03:40, the air raid warning began to sound.

  • As a reminder, on the night of July 19, Russian terrorists attacked Ukraine with missiles and "shaheds": an infrastructure facility was damaged in Zhytomyr region, high-rise buildings and an industrial port in Odesa region, a house of culture was on fire in Kherson, and recreational infrastructure facilities in Mykolaiv region.
