During the meeting of the heads of foreign affairs of the G7, Germany's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Annalena Baerbock, highlighted the group's efforts to confront Russian aggression. The G7 acted as a crisis team on a long-term mission, implementing several measures to counter Russia's aggression, including winter aid for people in Ukraine, anti-Russian sanctions, and oil price caps. Baerbock emphasized that with their support, Ukraine was able to resist Russia's energy war and winter offensive.
During the meeting in Japan, the G7 representatives aimed to reaffirm and strengthen their commitments. Baerbock emphasized that it was crucial to demonstrate to Putin the group's determination to prevent him from achieving his goals due to exhaustion and war fatigue. As a group of the most developed democratic states in confrontation with autocratic forces, the G7's partners and friends around the world have confidence in them.
Baerbock believes that the G7's strength lies in their shared values, including an international order where the rule of law and international law take precedence over the right of the stronger. The group also aims to establish economic relations based on justice and general rules of competition rather than dependencies.
