Putin calls transfer of US ATACMS missiles to Ukraine mistake
On October 18, Russian leader Vladimir Putin called the supply of ATACMS missiles to Ukraine a US mistake and noted that it poses an additional threat to Russia
He said this after talks with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, Interfax reports.
"First of all, it certainly causes harm. It creates an additional threat. War is war. And, of course, I said they pose a threat, it goes without saying," Putin said.
At the same time, the Russian dictator noted that this seems to be unable to radically change the situation on the front line.
He added that the United States is further involved in the war in Ukraine by supplying long-range missiles.
"This is another mistake on the part of the United States," Putin said.
ATACMS is already in Ukraine: what is known
On the night of October 16-17, Ukrainian defenders successfully attacked Russian helicopters and airfields in Luhansk and Berdyansk.
Foreign media reported that during this attack, Ukraine used for the first time against Russian troops the American long-range ATACMS missiles, which the United States had secretly sent a few days earlier.
In the evening, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced their use against Russian troops, and Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Valerii Zaluzhnyi demonstrated how Ukrainian defenders used them.
The White House confirmed the delivery of missiles to Ukraine.
