President of European Parliament Roberta Metsola supports transfer of Leopard tanks to Ukraine

This was reported by the First German TV and radio broadcasting channel Tagesschau.

During a meeting with a group of Bundestag deputies from the Christian Social Union (CSU), Metsola stressed: "It is important to continue military support for Ukraine." So she also stands for the supply of Leopard tanks to Ukraine, as demanded by the CSU and politicians from other German parties.

Also, the President of the European Parliament welcomed the announcement of the German government on the supply of Marder infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine. She noted that Russia wants Europe to look the other way when it comes to Ukraine, but this should not be allowed.

"It is important that Europe continues to provide Ukrainians with political, humanitarian and military support," Metsola stressed.

• On December 6, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba called on Germany to demonstrate leadership and finally transfer Leopard 2 tanks, Patriot systems and Marder infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine. 

• On January 4, it became known that France will transfer AMX-10RC light battle tanks and ACMAT Bastion armored personnel carriers to Ukraine. 

• The United States supported the transfer of Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine but noted that this should take place at the initiative of Germany.

• On January 6, German government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit said that Germany wants to deliver about 40 Marder infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine in the next three months. 

• On January 7, Finland said it would provide Ukraine with Leopard 2 tanks if other European countries decide to do so.
