Poland’s deputy foreign minister calls for use of frozen Russian assets for financial aid to Ukraine
Polish diplomat Pawel Jablonski in Brussels proposes to use the frozen assets of the Russian Federation for financial assistance to Ukraine
He said this on Monday, November 28, reports Polskie Radio.
He called for increased financial assistance to Ukraine and emphasized that the funds for this should come from confiscated Russian property. For now, they are frozen under EU sanctions.
The deputy head of the Foreign Ministry noted that Poland was the first country to pay attention to this, and that Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki spoke about it in the first months of Russia's attack on Ukraine.
“We are talking about Russian assets and reserves, oligarchs, but also of the Russian Federation. It has to happen. It is good that the European Commission is working on it, but such steps have not yet been taken, although Poland has been talking about it since March. Ukraine needs this money, refugees and countries that support Ukraine need this money," Deputy Foreign Minister Jablonski said.
According to him, Poland, now bearing the biggest burden of supporting Ukrainian refugees, is waiting for money from the EU. "These costs are calculated in billions," he added.
