Sikorski welcomed Trump’s statement affirming that NATO countries should shoot down Russian aircraft entering their airspace.
“It’s good that President Trump expressed this position — that sovereign countries must have the right to defend their airspace. If Cuban planes entered U.S. airspace, we know what would happen,” Radosław Sikorski said.
The day before, in a UN speech, Sikorski warned Russia against further provocations toward NATO countries and cautioned Moscow not to complain about the consequences later.
- Tensions in the Baltic Sea region have escalated in recent days following multiple incidents involving Russian military aircraft. On Friday, three Russian MiG-31 interceptors entered Estonian airspace for about 12 minutes, while Poland reported that two Russian planes flew low over the Petrobaltic drilling platform, violating its security zone.
- In response, Estonia requested an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council, scheduled for Monday, September 22, to address Russia’s airspace violations.
