Pentagon comments on situation with Starlink, assures that Ukraine will continue to have everything it needs on the battlefield
The Pentagon says it is looking for ways to operate the Starlink communications system in Ukraine, or to provide other options for satellite communications
This is stated on the website of the Pentagon, with reference to the Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh.
"We are certainly aware of the benefits of any satellite communication capability that Ukrainians can use not only on the battlefield, but also within the country itself. We understand the fragility of these communications, and it is important that not only command and control remain intact on the battlefield, but also communication throughout the country. We are evaluating our capabilities and trying to do everything possible to help preserve this satellite link for Ukrainian forces," the statement says.
The Pentagon says that they are in talks not only with SpaceX, but also with other satellite communication companies.
"I'm not going to reveal right now what it is or who we're talking to. But we know there are other companies, not just SpaceX, that we can certainly work with when it comes to giving Ukraine what it needs on the battlefield".
Singh noted that the Ukrainian side successfully coordinated and planned operations on the battlefield for 7-8 months with the help of Starlink.
The Pentagon emphasizes that this system has become important for the continuation of both civilian and military communications in a country where hostilities are taking place.
