Not long-range: Zgurets analyzes ATACMS missiles sent to Ukraine
Serhiy Zgurets, Defense Express CEO, mentioned that Ukraine has received the ATACMS operational-tactical version
He shared this on Espreso TV.
"We've been waiting for ATACMS to arrive. These are operational-tactical missiles with a maximum range of 300 kilometers, not long-range ones like Taurus missiles, which can reach up to 500 kilometers. We've already seen the successful use of ATACMS. They destroyed a significant amount of aviation equipment in Berdyansk, and it took just three missiles. ATACMS is a ballistic missile that's very hard to defend against," Zgurets explained.
According to the expert, the Russian air defense system now faces a double challenge with the arrival of ATACMS.
"ATACMS can target enemy air defense systems' positions and are particularly effective in open areas. ATACMS comes in various versions developed since 1990. The initial versions were clusters, carrying a warhead weighing around 600 kilograms and having a range of 165 kilometers. The M-39 is the first cluster version of ATACMS. There are also more modern versions like the M-39A, which have a range of up to 300 kilometers. The U.S. has a sufficient supply of these missiles," Zgurets noted.
- On September 15, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated that the Ukrainian military would decide how to use American missiles.
- During the night of October 16-17, Ukrainian defenders targeted Russian helicopters and airfields in Luhansk and Berdyansk.
