U.S. Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, single-handedly ordered a halt to certain arms supplies to Ukraine, even though analyses showed these shipments wouldn't jeopardize the readiness of U.S. stocks

NBC News reported, citing sources.

Previously, the Pentagon claimed to have halted certain supplies to Kyiv due to weapon shortages at U.S. depots. However, according to three U.S. officials, the analysis indicated no shortage justifying the pause in arms deliveries.

"We are not at any lower point, stockpile-wise, than we’ve been in the 3½ years of the Ukraine conflict," said Adam Smith, a member of the House Armed Services Committee.

Sources tell NBC that Hegseth made the decision unilaterally, marking the third time he personally halted aid shipments to Ukraine. Previous decisions to stop shipments in February and May were later reversed.

  • On July 2, it was revealed that the U.S. had halted deliveries of some anti-aircraft missiles and precision-guided munitions to Ukraine over concerns about its own stockpiles of military equipment.
  • The following day, it became known that the U.S. Department of Defense continues to provide President Donald Trump with recommendations regarding military aid to Ukraine.
