Germany plans to train more than 10,000 Ukrainian military in 2024
The Bundeswehr plans to train 10,000 Ukrainian servicemen as part of the EUMAM European training mission
This was stated by German State Secretary of Defense Siemtje Möller in Brussels, RP Online reports.
She said that the Bundeswehr is training the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in particular, on the Patriot air defense system, the 2000 self-propelled howitzer, the Marder infantry fighting vehicle and the Leopard 1 and Leopard 2 main battle tanks. At the same time, there is an opportunity to take courses to train military leadership and the medical sector.
Initially, it was planned to train up to 15,000 Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel in Germany, Poland, and other EU countries. Later, the goal was increased to 30,000, and then to 40,000. The German Armed Forces have trained 10,000 Ukrainian defenders.
According to the German defense ministry, about 1,500 members of the Bundeswehr recently took part in the mission.
Siemtje stressed that Germany will continue to support Ukraine and reminded that about 40,000 Ukrainian soldiers have already been trained in European countries as part of the EUMAM mission. This decision was made in November 2022 by EU foreign ministers.
- On January 31, media reported that Germany had provided another package of military assistance to Ukraine. The package includes, among other things, more than 1,000 155 mm artillery rounds.
