EU plans to provide Ukraine with over 1 million artillery rounds by year end - Borrell
The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, announced a 40% increase in the capacity of the EU member states' defense industry
He said this during a joint briefing with Ukraine's Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal on February 7 in Kyiv, Ukrinform reports.
"The EU's defense industry continues to grow: we can already note that its capacity has increased by 40%. I can also give a fairly specific figure for ammunition (for Ukraine - ed.): by the end of this year, we expect to have 1 million 155 thousand," Borrell said.
He emphasized that Ukraine should continue the reform process on its way to the EU despite the war.
It is worth noting that Borrell spent last night in a shelter due to a massive attack by the invading Russian forces.
On February 6, the EU's top diplomat announced his arrival in Kyiv on the social network X.
“Back in Kyiv for my fourth visit since the start of Russia’s full scale invasion,” Borrell wrote.
In addition, Borrell's special adviser, diplomat Zaki Laidi, arrived in Kyiv. He posted a photo on social network X in front of the Helm-Kyiv train.
"Arriving in Kyiv on the day Reps (members of the US House of Representatives - ed.) decided to throw Ukraine under the bus," he wrote.
