Russian missile might have been aimed at hospital's central building - Defense Express
Oleh Katkov, editor-in-chief of Defence Express, noted that the Russian attack on the Okhmatdyt children's hospital in Kyiv on July 8 was deliberate. Hovewer, the deviation radius of the Russian Kh-101 is approximately 50 meters
He went into detail about it on Espreso TV.
"The certainty that the children's hospital was the target of the strikes is indisputable, supported by two videos from different angles showing the attack by a Russian Kh-101 missile. The identification of the missile type is confirmed by debris recovered and displayed by the Security Service of Ukraine, including fragments with serial numbers that can trace its manufacturing date. One of the videos clearly depicts the Kh-101 missile, identifiable by its engine extending beyond the missile's fuselage and its characteristic low wings. The missile's descending trajectory indicates a deliberate targeting," stated the military expert.
"He explained that Kh-101 missiles perform a 'star' maneuver before striking, where they initially fly at a lower altitude during the initial phase, approximately 20-50 meters or 100 meters, before ascending to a higher altitude, such as 150-200 meters, just before diving towards the target.
"The footage of the Kh-101 attack clearly shows the missile, approaching with a 45-degree angle of attack. This indicates it targeted a specific location stored in its memory. The missile struck a two-story building without apparent damage from the video footage, suggesting its systems were fully operational. The children's hospital was likely programmed into the missile's memory as the target.
"It's worth noting that Russia claims these missiles have an accuracy of plus or minus a meter, but in reality, it's closer to plus or minus 50 meters. Therefore, it's possible the intended target of this attack was the main building of the children's hospital," summarized Oleh Katkov.
