Netherlands to give Ukraine EUR 80 mln for demining, reconstruction
The Netherlands will provide Ukraine with over EUR 80 million in aid to launch reconstruction work in regions affected by Russian aggression.
This was announced by the Minister of Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Lissier Schreynemacher at a meeting with journalists in Kyiv, Ukrinform reports.
"The Netherlands will allocate 65 million euros for aid and investment in Ukraine," Schreinemacher said.
The package will include co-financing efforts by Dutch companies to rebuild infrastructure, such as bridges, dams and hospitals, in war-torn regions of Ukraine, she said. The funds will also be used to support Ukrainian small and medium-sized businesses.
The minister noted that the Netherlands will provide 1 million euros for the development of priority reconstruction projects in Kherson, Odesa and Mykolaiv. The Association of Municipalities of the Netherlands is also ready to provide support to Ukrainian partners, which will help attract Dutch specialists to the development and implementation of such plans.
In addition, the Dutch government plans to allocate 10 million euros for demining and elimination of explosive objects in the territories where hostilities took place.
"Demining is vital. Only after the explosives have been neutralized will people be able to safely return to their homes and start rebuilding households and businesses," Schreinemacher stressed.
The Netherlands will also provide 2.5 million euros to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to support macroeconomic reforms, public administration and ensuring the rule of law in Ukraine, and another 2 million euros to the United Nations Population Fund to provide psychosocial support to victims of sexual and gender-based violence in Ukraine.
Minister of Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Lissier Schreinemacher and Minister of Defense of the Netherlands Kaisa Ollongren are in Kyiv on a joint visit.
