No consensus among EU leaders on Zelensky's Victory Plan — Polish PM Tusk
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk says that there is no consensus among European leaders on Zelenskyy's Victory Plan, as countries have different approaches to Ukraine's NATO membership
Tusk said this at a press conference after the EU summit in Brussels, PAP reports.
The Polish prime minister noted that no one expected harmony on the Victory Plan, as EU countries have different approaches to Ukraine's membership in NATO, and the invitation to join the Alliance was the first point of the Plan.
Tusk recalled that when the issue of Ukraine's accession to NATO first came up at the summit, back during the presidency of Lech Kaczyński (President of Poland from 2005 to 2010 - ed.), it was Poland that advocated opening up the NATO perspective for Ukraine.
"This has not changed. In this regard, we stand in solidarity with Ukraine," the Prime Minister emphasized.
He also noted that it is currently difficult to assess how realistic the Victory Plan is, as much will depend on the outcome of the U.S. presidential election. Tusk added that the strategies contained in the Plan will be reassessed after the election.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that at a meeting of the European Council, most of the allies who commented on the Victory Plan supported it.
Following his meetings with NATO defense ministers, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov said that there were no opponents of Ukraine's accession to the Alliance.
