Andriy Polukhin, a representative of the press service of the 24th King Danylo Brigade, told this on Kyiv24, according to Espreso.

According to him, the most affected neighborhood in Chasiv Yar is the Kanal neighborhood, which is located behind the canal. “There are ruins there, but it is possible for small groups to hide. This is how the Russians attack,” said Polukhin.

Why it is important for Russians to capture Chasiv Yar

He also noted that the Russians are trying to capture Chasiv Yar because it is an elevation that will allow them to easily shell positions in the lowlands.

“Chasiv Yar is located at a higher altitude compared to Kostiantynivka, Druzhkivka and Kramatorsk. This height runs along the road to Kramatorsk,” he said.

Russian troops are trying to cut logistics routes

The spokesperson added that the Russians are trying to cut off logistics routes.

“The enemy is trying to reach this line to cut off logistics routes. This height is very important for the Russians because there will be artillery there. It will be easy for them to shell those territories from the height,” he emphasized.

Situation in Chasiv Yar

In early August, the Russian aggressors broke through the Siversk Donets-Donbas canal in Chasiv Yar. As you can see on DeepState's interactive map, the Russian advanced units have established themselves on Mariupolska Street. Prior to that, the Ukrainian Defense Forces had to abandon the Kanal neighborhood in Chasiv Yar, on the eastern bank of the Siversk Donets-Donbas Canal that runs through the city.

Also, the editor-in-chief of Suspilne. Donbas editor-in-chief Andriy Kramchenkov also told what could happen if Russians occupy Chasiv Yar. The soldiers of the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade showed Chasiv Yar destroyed by the Russians: burnt buildings, shell craters and ruins.
