Ukraine’s president explains challenges with intercepting Russian drones
Volodymyr Zelenskyy explained why it is not always possible to shoot down Russian reconnaissance drones
He discussed this during the "Ukraine 2024. Independence" forum on August 27.
“We can shoot down drones like the Zala and Orlan, but finding a technical solution for every case is challenging. We also face a shortage of necessary tools, including air defense systems. Using a Patriot missile to intercept a drone like the Orlan is very costly. If we allocate such resources to lower-priority targets, we might not have enough left to address more critical threats, such as a Kinzhal missile,” Zelenskyy said.
He noted that Ukraine is actively seeking ways to counter Russian reconnaissance drones.
“Russia has numerous reconnaissance drones, and our military, technicians, and defense industry are constantly working to find solutions to reduce their impact. These drones are directing various weapons at us, which is a serious challenge,” the President of Ukraine added.
