Ukraine's missile strike on Russian drone supplier exposes crippled military logistics
A Ukrainian Neptune missile attack on a crucial Russian electronics factory suggests a nearby major ammunition arsenal has been abandoned following a previous, successful strike
Defense Express reported the information.
Ukrainian forces have successfully struck the Elektrodetal electronics plant in the Russian city of Karachev, Bryansk region, using domestically produced Neptune cruise missiles, according to a confirmation from the Ukrainian Navy. The attack highlights a strategic shift in targeting, pointing to the degradation of Russia's military logistics deep behind the front lines.
The Elektrodetal plant, according to Ukrainian intelligence, is a significant supplier of various electrical connectors used widely across the Russian military-industrial complex, particularly in the aerospace sector. Components manufactured at the facility were notably identified in the wreckage of Russian Chimera FPV drones, making the factory a critical node in Russia's drone production supply chain.
However, the most telling aspect of the operation is not the target that was hit, but the one that was ignored. Karachev is also home to the 67th GRAU arsenal, a massive and vital military logistics hub. The decision to bypass this high-value target strongly indicates that its operational capacity has been neutralized. Analysts believe the arsenal was largely emptied or abandoned by Russian forces following a devastating Ukrainian strike on November 19, 2024, which was reportedly one of the first uses of U.S.-supplied ATACMS ballistic missiles on Russian territory and resulted in at least 12 secondary explosions.
The choice to expend valuable Neptune missiles on the factory, rather than the once-critical arsenal, suggests that Ukrainian intelligence assessed the depot as no longer being a worthwhile target. This calculated move demonstrates a sophisticated, long-term strategy by Ukraine to systematically dismantle Russia's military capabilities, first by eliminating its stockpiles and then by targeting the production facilities that replenish them.
