Ukraine presents Magura V7 naval drones designed to destroy Russian ships and aircraft
The head of Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence (HUR), Kyrylo Budanov, together with a team of intelligence specialists, publicly presented for the first time a series of Magura strike naval drones capable of destroying Russian aircraft and ships
The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine (HUR) announced this.
The weapon presentation took place on May 14 in Kyiv. Specialists unveiled the Magura sea drones for the first time — cutting-edge technology that allowed HUR’s special unit, Group 13, to turn the tide in the Black Sea in Ukraine’s favor.
Specifically, the Magura series of strike naval drones includes:
- Magura V5 drones, capable of swarming and acting as "killers" of Russian Black Sea Fleet ships;
- the multifunctional Magura V6P platform;
- the Magura V7 missile carrier drone, which destroyed a Russian combat aircraft for the first time in history;
- the Magura V7 model equipped with a combat machine gun module.
The Defence Intelligence (HUR) reported that over two years of combat use of various Magura drone modifications, military intelligence has struck a total of 17 Russian naval and air targets, destroying 15 of them completely. These include two Russian Mi-8 helicopters, two Su-30 fighter jets, major ships of the Russian Black Sea Fleet such as the Sergey Kotov, Ivanovets, Caesar Kunikov, and other vessels.
The inflicted damage to Russia is estimated at over half a billion dollars.
“We can confidently say that Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence and Group 13 have pushed the Russian Black Sea Fleet back to its bases. Their actions are now restricted, and they are no longer carrying out their intended missions,” said the commander of Group 13, call sign Thirteenth.
He added that December 31, 2024, in his view, marked a turning point in the fleet’s history — on that day, two Russian Mi-8 helicopters were destroyed and one damaged. Additionally, intelligence forces took down two Russian aircraft.
The Magura V7, equipped with two AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles, which HUR special forces used to shoot down two Russian Su-30 fighter jets worth over $100 million, drew the most attention.
HUR emphasized that the emergence and development of the missile-equipped Magura is the achievement of engineers and manufacturers who remain behind the scenes but continue to create and enhance the weapons securing Ukraine’s victory at sea.
- On May 2, 2025, a special unit of Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence, in cooperation with the Security Service and the Defence Forces, destroyed a Russian Su-30 fighter jet in the Black Sea with a strike from a Magura sea drone.
