Russian troops intensify attacks on Vuhledar following failed counteroffensive in Kursk - Information Resistance
Oleksandr Kovalenko, a military-political analyst wit the Information resistance group, notes that fighting in Vuhledar is nearly as intense as in the Pokrovsk-Kurakhove direction
He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
“Vuhledar is now almost on a par with Pokrovsk-Kurakhove in terms of the intensity of hostilities and the use of mechanized equipment. They are interconnected. But there is one very important nuance. The intensification of the offensive on Vuhledar took place after the complete failure of the Russian counteroffensive in the Kursk region,” Kovalenko said.
According to the military expert, the active offensive on Vuhledar began when it became evident to the Russians that their counteroffensive in the Kursk region had failed, and they would not be able to claim they had liberated the area by Putin's birthday.
“Then they moved on to other scenarios, and Vuhledar is one of them. To give Vuhledar to Putin on his birthday. To waste tens of thousands of Russian military and equipment there, but to give him such a big gift,” Kovalenko emphasized.
The military and political observer with the Information Resistance group also added that Russia is currently dissatisfied with what is happening in the Kursk region.
“They are not satisfied with the fact that they cannot fix this situation. While the Russian counteroffensive is allegedly underway, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to expand their control zone. This is a paradoxical situation,” Kovalenko summarized.
- Soldiers of Ukraine's 72nd Separate Mechanized Brigade named after the Black Zaporozhians denied the information about their withdrawal from Vuhledar.
- About 100 civilian Ukrainians remain in Vuhledar, Donetsk region, refusing to leave. At the same time, it is impossible to bring humanitarian aid to the town, as Russia is shelling all roads.
- The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) writes that the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) may lack the training and equipment to respond to the Ukrainian army's offensive in the Kursk region.
