Russian forces shift away from frontal attacks, attempt to encircle Lyman – Ukraine's 63rd Brigade
Rostyslav Yashchyshyn, spokesperson for Ukraine’s 63rd Separate Mechanized Brigade, stated that the Russian occupying forces are likely planning an attempt to outflank and encircle the city of Lyman, Donetsk region
He shared the information on Espreso TV.
“The Lyman direction and the city of Lyman itself hold great significance for Russia. Capturing the city is one of their key ambitions,” Yashchyshyn said. “However, they’ve long since given up on frontal assaults. Most likely, they’ll attempt to bypass our positions and encircle the city. But to do that, they still have a long distance to cover.”
The spokesperson for the 63rd Separate Mechanized Brigade noted that Russian forces are continuously exerting pressure on Ukrainian positions in the Lyman sector. According to Yashchyshyn, Russia has amassed a significant concentration of troops and equipment in the area to sustain a high intensity of assaults.
“Now the enemy is attacking to the north of our brigade's area of responsibility. However, we hope that our units will be able to withstand the enemy's onslaught and repel all attacks. We are actively working together with neighboring brigades. We are not talking about any serious assault actions on the part of the enemy, but such attacks are constant. In particular, the enemy attacks in small groups,” he summarized.
