Russia used a North Korean KN-23 ballistic missile during the attack on Kyiv on April 24: it hit a residential building in the Sviatoshynskyi district, killing at least 12 people
Reuters reported the information, citing a Ukrainian military source.
"The weapon that killed at least eight people in a major Russian aerial attack on Kyiv overnight was a North Korean KN-23 (KN-23A) ballistic missile… The missile struck a residential building in the Sviatoshynskyi district west of Kyiv's centre," the report says.
According to the source, KN-23 (KN-23A) missiles are equipped with warheads weighing up to one ton and are more powerful than similar Russian missiles.
Russia and North Korea deny the transfer of weapons that would violate the UN embargo. However, according to Ukrainian military intelligence, by the beginning of 2025, Pyongyang had supplied Russia with 148 KN-23 and KN-24 ballistic missiles.
Ukraine’s Air Force, in its report on the Russian strike on Ukraine, does not mention the KN-23 missile.
