"Long-range artillery killer": South Korea plans to develop new missile
South Korea plans to develop a new guided missile that can hit North Korean long-range artillery positions in mountainous terrain
This was reported by Yonhap with reference to the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA).
New missile is expected to be an updated version of the 400-millimeter Korean Tactical Surface to Surface Missile (KTSSM) which is called a "long-range artillery killer."
While the current KTSSM system functions on a stationary platform, the new missile is expected to be installed on a mobile launcher that will increase its movability and durability.
Also, the KTSSM 180 km range is planned to be increased to 300 km.
The publication adds that the North Korean missile and artillery threats have attracted increased attention after North Korea demonstrated a number of missile and artillery systems capable of reaching South Korean territory at a recent military parade in Pyongyang.
Among them are "massive" multiple rocket systems and 152 mm self-propelled howitzers, as well as the KN-23 missile inspired by the Russian Iskander ballistic missile.
