Lithuania to provide Ukraine with additional EUR 10 million for reconstruction works

Lithuania will allocate an additional EUR 10 million to the Ukrainian National Bank for urgent reconstruction works.

DELFI informs about this with reference to the statement made during the conference in Lugano by the Prime Minister of Lithuania Ingrida Šimonyte.

"We must speed up military, humanitarian and financial aid so that Ukraine wins this war as soon as possible. The volume of bilateral aid from Lithuania to Ukraine and support for refugees from Ukraine in our country exceeds half a billion euros. Lithuania will transfer an additional 10 million euros to the National Bank of Ukraine for emergency reconstruction works. Lithuania will support Ukraine until your victory and ours! And after it," said Šimonyte at the Conference on Reforms in Ukraine on July 5.

According to her, the most correct and fair way to collect funding for the reconstruction of Ukraine would be the confiscation and use of Russian assets frozen by sanctions.

"We cannot resurrect the people killed by Russia, but we have a real chance to force the aggressors to pay reparations. If only because this money is kept in our banks and moored to our docks," the press service of the Lithuanian government quoted the Prime Minister as saying.

Šimonyte called on the EU and other countries that have imposed sanctions against the Russian Federation to create a legal mechanism for asset confiscation and make restrictions against Russia more effective.

She also emphasized that during the full-scale war, Ukraine did not postpone reforms, but on the contrary accelerated their implementation. She emphasized that now is the time to prove to friends and partners of Ukraine that it is possible to quickly move from words to deeds.
